We took a “side trip” today into the Tuscan countryside and visited Siena and San Gimignano. These two medieval cities represent a time now past but beautifully preserved. Siena is the city that hosts the famous horse race, the “Palio” which is run in the main square in July and August. San Gimignano is famous for the various towers built by individual families as a sign of their importance.
