Day 16 - Ho Chi Minh City - Mekong Delta

We left Saigon to visit the Mekong Delta. We traveled by bus, a large boat, a small boat, a rowboat and a horse-cart. Pretty interesting area. Later we returned to the city for our "fairwell" dinner and a nightcap high above the city. We leave Vietnam tomorrow to vist Cambodia.

These are new apartments going up in Saigon

On the way to the Delta we stopped to see a temple of a religion that incorporates Buddiasm, B'hai, Confusiasm and a few others as well.

Now on to the boat trip on the Mekon River

This is a fishing boat, note the lights for night work and the nice laundry job

Would you like to buy some riverfront property?

The terra cotta pots are for sale, they are used to collect the rain water

Why does it need to be straight?

Next boat

The oarsperson brought her daughter

The traditional hat protects the wearer from the sun, note the design in the hat

We stopped at a bee farm. This is a drink made of honey, rice wine and lime

Just stick your finger into the comb to taste the honey, just move the bees out of the way!

Is this some kind of scarf? It fits snugly

On to the coconut candy factory

We need a small boat to navigate the narrow jungle stream to get to our lunch stop

The meal began with the Elephant Ear fish

Just take some noodles, cucumber and pineapple, add the fish androll it all up in a spring roll

Lunch was served in this hut in the jungle

A little music after lunch is always nice

Back out to the main river

The boats of the Mekong Delta have round eyes with a red color, other areas have different identification

Today was a great day for flowers growing wild in the jungle

These are Rose Apples and a flowering coconut

Back to Saigon, satellite dishes are not allowed, hence the sea of TV antennas

The new homes show some wild individuality

Rush hour is pretty amazing

Of course, you can just do your homework on your sister's back while she holds the notes

In the 1960's who would have thought that we would be having a drink at a rooftop bar along the Saigon River?!
